Afternoon Tea

Maybe it’s afternoon tea in a New England tea room, but even visitors from Old England won’t be disappointed with our “English” afternoon tea.  We serve freshly brewed house-blend loose leaf tea for a very traditional full English afternoon tea with a bountiful array of tea sandwiches and sweets.

We take the time to make a proper pot of tea with our own house afternoon blend and freshly boiling water in a nice fat teapot. One English guest declared, “This is the first really good cup of tea I’ve had since I arrived on this continent three weeks ago!

The Tea Menu

The cream tea for $32.00 per person consists of warm freshly-made scones served with clotted cream and strawberry jam. With the full English afternoon tea for $48.00 per person, there are scones, cream and jam as well as several varieties of tea sandwiches and finger pastries, often including millionaire’s shortbread or strawberry tarts. A selection of tea sandwiches is $32.00. Each choice comes with endless pots of freshly-made imported house-blend tea and you are, of course, welcome to spend as long as you like enjoying it. Just a pot Red Hat tea party in tea room at Governor's House in Hyde Park, Vermontof tea with a little something on the side is $17.00 per person. At least two hours notice is usually required for reservations for cream tea and twenty-four hours notice is usually required for the full afternoon tea to accommodate the baking.

High Tea? Low Tea? Milk first or last? And what about that little finger?

The mysteries of afternoon tea and tea etiquette are solved while you enjoy a full English afternoon tea with tea sandwiches, little sweets, and warm scones with clotted cream and jam. A formal tea party can be intimidating, but after a pleasant afternoon of instruction, you will surely be confident enough to enjoy having tea anywhere. You’ll learn the fascinating history of tea, the secrets of brewing a perfect cup, just how to pour graciously without spills, and you’ll be ready to host a very proper tea party yourself.

Please see our calendar of events for selected Sunday afternoons or schedule your private instructional tea party on any available day.

Children’s Tea

We sometimes offer a children’s tea for parents with children of all ages. There will be tea sandwiches, warm scones with clotted cream and jam,
and bite-sized sweets all enjoyed as we talk about the history of tea and tea parties and the etiquette that makes it a perfect afternoon.
The schedule will be listed on our calendar of events
and is often possible for a small private group.

A small private children’s tea also makes a lovely birthday party.

Theater Tea

Theater tea is offered at the Governor’s House before selected Hyde Park Opera House productions. This new trend in London works just as well here in the New World. Park in our parking lot or easily on the street before the crowds, enjoy a leisurely meal, and then walk right across the street just in time for the show. Arriving between 5:00 and 5:30 for the 7:00 show gives you plenty of time to relax and enjoy the meal. A cup of home-made soup is added to the full tea of little sandwiches, warm scones with clotted cream and jam, and a variety of sweets and served with unlimited pots of our house blend loose-leaf tea for $50.00.

Theater tea is offered before most Thursday performances and is sometimes available either before or after the Sunday Matinee.
Please see our calendar of events for specific dates.
